Silver surfers in Andover are given a helping hand

Health insurance provider Simplyhealth has donated £2,000 to local charity Andover Neighbourcare. The funds will go towards replacing seven PCs and monitors which are used by the Silver Surfers Internet Café.

The Andover Neighbourcare’s Silver Surfers Internet Café is used to teach those of an older generation and people with disabilities about technology. This can vary from  learning how to use a computer, to internet safety, with the ultimate aim to help people maintain their independence and gain confidence online.

We are very grateful to Simplyhealth for its kind donation to help fund new computers. As technology is ever improving, unfortunately our old computers couldn't keep up with newer software. Everyone at the Silver Surfer’s Internet Café is a volunteer who dedicates their own time to teaching people on a one to one basis and on a range of topics. It’s a great service and one that I'm proud to be part of. Since we opened in 2010, we have trained over 1,500 people which has helped to make a real difference to their lives and we hope to help more people for many years to come.

We are pleased to be supporting the Silver Surfer’s Café which benefits so many people in the community. As more people are living longer, this service is invaluable in helping to offer independence, security, knowledge and confidence to those living in Andover and the surrounding villages.
