Improvements made to Anxiety UK’s helpline thanks to Simplyhealth

Healthcare provider Simplyhealth has donated £2,365 to Anxiety UK to provide much needed equipment to support its helpline based in Hulme, Manchester. The funds will go towards new telephones, headsets, sound screens and two computers for the volunteer support area. The helpline is a key service, supporting thousands of callers affected by anxiety every year.

As a user led charity, we are entirely staffed by people who have personal experience of anxiety. Our helpline is in constant demand and we estimate that we help someone every 14 minutes. We are very grateful for Simplyhealth’s generous donation as it’s important that our volunteers who work on the helpline are fully equipped to answer these vital calls.
Nicky Lidbetter, Chief Executive of Anxiety UK
We know from our latest research with the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development into absence in the workplace that more than one in 10 people are likely to have a ‘disabling anxiety disorder’ at some stage in their life. The research also shows that 43% of organisations are seeing an increase in reported mental health problems such as anxiety and depression among employees in the past 12 months.

Organisations like Anxiety UK provide much needed support to people who are suffering with the disorder, as well as providing those who have suffered the opportunity to get back into work. We’re very proud to support the charity and hope everyone working on the helpline, and those calling for information and guidance, feels the benefit of the new improvements.
