Simplyhealth continues to support youth football programme in Andover with £12,000 donation

A local youth football programme run by Lions in the Community, has received a donation of £12,000 from healthcare provider Simplyhealth. The funds will allow the continuation of the summer activity camps for children in Andover, the enhancement of the Girls football programme and will also help towards the cost of enhancing the skill base of volunteer coaches.

In the past, we have primarily been seen as a football programme but the work we do has now become far more outreaching. One of our big plans for 2014 is to deliver summer activity weeks for both boys and girls in Andover. Not only will the children enjoy playing in tournaments, but the activity weeks will develop their key life skills such as teamwork, socialising and decision making and allow them the opportunity to sample a wide variety of sports available in the local area. With Simplyhealth’s support, we can continue to deliver good quality and consistent football coaching for both girls and boys in the Andover area and to support the delivery of numerous festivals and tournaments. It also means our volunteer youth coaches can expand their skills so they can teach a number of different sports, including hockey and tennis.
Cathy Devereux, Director of Lions in the Community
The Andover Lions in the Community Programme benefits so many children in and around Andover. Not only is sport a fun extra curricular activity, it is also an integral part of children’s health and wellbeing and we are delighted to offer Lions in the Community our support for the fourth year running.
