Simplyhealth gears up for the big turn off for Samaritans

Employees from  Simplyhealth’s offices are taking part in Samaritans’ new fundraising day, Phone Free Friday on 20 June.

Phone Free Friday puts people to the ultimate test, by laying down the gauntlet to go without their personal mobile phones from 9am-5pm on 20 June. Participants who can’t last the whole day without their phones will face penalties. The day asks people to make a donation of £4 to Samaritans, the cost of answering one call for help.

People who can’t face the thought of a day without their phone can still get involved by texting ‘DONATE’ to 70123* to make a £4 donation.

Samaritans answers more than 5 million calls for help every year, and we need to make sure we continue to be there for anyone struggling to cope. We are asking our supporters to turn off their personal mobile phones for one day and donate, so we can answer more calls. It is fantastic that Simplyhealth is supporting Phone Free Friday, and we really hope that this will encourage others to take part.
Catherine Johnstone, Samaritans’ CEO
We are really pleased to be teaming up with Samaritans on their new fundraising day. Nowadays, we rely on our phones for pretty much everything and Phone Free Friday is a great way to go back to basics, while raising funds for a great cause. Simplyhealth employees up and down the country will be getting involved and we challenge everyone else to do the same.
Mark Hamson, spokesperson for Simplyhealth
