Greenfields Community Housing achieves healthy workplace status

Greenfields Community Housing based in Braintree, Essex has been commended for demonstrating its commitment to the health and wellbeing of its employees by receiving a Simplyhealth Healthy Workplace award.

Provided by healthcare provider Simplyhealth, the Healthy Workplace awards recognise the contribution that UK organisations, in both the private and public sector, make to the welfare of employees. Winners of the award provide employees with a range of initiatives and benefits that help to keep their workforce motivated and healthy.

Julie Breed, Head of Human Resources at Greenfields, comments: "Following feedback from staff we wanted to help people make healthier lifestyle choices. Seventeen staff came forward as health champions to devise a programme of health and wellbeing initiatives for staff. These initiatives ranged from free health MOT checks, lunchtime walks, Pilates and Zumba classes, to a shape up weight loss programme and support for giving up smoking.

"The six-week pedometer challenge is for teams to walk 840 miles from Land's End to John O'Groats and we are planning a Three Peaks Challenge for next year. Our first Health and Wellbeing Co-ordinator is recruiting Health Trainer volunteers to work in the local community to raise awareness of healthy lifestyle choices. By working in partnership with Central Essex Community Services and local Leisure centre operators, we can offer our programme at minimal cost.

"The health and wellbeing of our staff is very important to us and it is great that so many of our people want to get involved to help support their colleagues."

Howard Hughes from Simplyhealth remarks: "We run this award scheme because we want to recognise and encourage companies to care about the health of their people. We believe that companies can make a positive contribution to the health of our nation. Congratulations to Greenfields Community Housing on achieving Simplyhealth Healthy Workplace status and demonstrating that the health and wellbeing of its employees is fundamental."
