Romana Abdin to step down as Simplyhealth Chief Executive in 2021
Simplyhealth announces that Romana Abdin, Chief Executive, has informed the Board that she will be stepping down from her role in 2021. A search for Romana’s successor is underway and a transition period will begin once a new Chief Executive has been appointed.
After seven years, now is the right moment for me to pass the baton to a new leader. The transformation work we have done has given us strong foundations, not only to weather the storm this year but to invest in our future as a hub for healthcare services. The business is financially strong and our purpose – improving access to healthcare – could not be more relevant as we approach our 150th birthday.
A big thank you to all my colleagues for their incredible support and hard work during my time as steward of this great company. It has been an honour to work with such a talented, passionate group of people.
Romana has been Chief Executive of the Simplyhealth Group since 2013, having originally joined as Executive Director, Corporate Affairs in 2001. A respected and passionate leader of people, Romana has implemented a major transformation of Simplyhealth, turning it into a purpose led and customer driven organisation with a clear vision and strategy. Her achievements have been recognised externally through several awards.
Romana has been at the helm of Simplyhealth over seven years and has steered us through our transformation. Her passion and sense of purpose, putting our customers, colleagues and our communities before all else is her hallmark, and something to be admired. She leaves the organisation ready for the next stage of our journey and I applaud her decision and professionalism to pass the baton to the person who will see the strategy through to fruition over the coming years.

Since 1872 we’ve been helping people get healthcare through our health plans, charity partnerships and by being a voice in healthcare. Today we’re delighted to be the UK’s leading provider of health plans, dental plans and pet health plans, which help individuals, families, employees and pets to get support with their health when they need it.
We don’t have shareholders which means we are totally focused on making sure no one goes without the healthcare support they need, and why we are passionate about being a voice in healthcare and partnering with charities to reduce health inequality. We have a commitment to donate part of our pre-tax profits to charities or community projects each year and spread our donations across a wide range of healthcare-related charities.
In 2019 we became Official Healthcare Partner of England Rugby, a partnership that will help us deliver on our purpose and improve access to healthcare for the rugby community.
