Simplyhealth CEO Des Benjamin to retire after 13 years

Des Benjamin the CEO of healthcare provider Simplyhealth has today announced his decision to retire after 13 years of leading the company.

Des joined HSA in 2000, which became Simplyhealth in 2009. Des has led the company throughout a number of mergers and acquisitions, most recently Denplan and the healthcare arm of Groupama Insurances. Simplyhealth now serves nearly four million people and 20,000 businesses.

Commenting on his decision Des says: “For reasons personal to me I know it is the right decision. I know as one era ends, another will blossom and I also know it will be a good one for Simplyhealth people and for our customers.”

Having spent most of his career working for financial services businesses, Des joined the company we now know as Simplyhealth with the firm belief that businesses should be run differently. He has always championed personal customer service, becoming President of the Institute of Customer Service last year.

Des will continue to lead the business and is working with the Board to manage a smooth handover to his successor. The Board has now begun the process of finding the right person.

Ken Piggott, Chairman at Simplyhealth
On behalf of the Board and everyone at Simplyhealth I would like to thank Des for his unfaltering leadership and sense of purpose, which has driven Simplyhealth to become a key part of the healthcare market. Des has helped to grow an organisation that is strong and sure of its ambitions and he’s done this without ever losing his determination to help people
