Simplyhealth comments on NHS funding announcement

Raman Sankaran, Chief Commercial Officer – Growth & Innovation at Simplyhealth, said:

“The Prime Minister’s announcement of additional NHS funding is welcome and much-needed recognition of the excellent public health service provided for all over the last 70 years.

Although no additional funding for social care was announced, the forthcoming Green Paper will provide the Government with an opportunity to consult on proposals to help promote a sustainable health and social care system into the future.

Whilst the Carers Action Plan outlines short-term measures, the delay in the publication of the Green Paper until the autumn must not distract from the urgent need to consider how carers can be supported in the long-term.

Given unpaid carers make an invaluable contribution, supporting individuals in local communities and alleviating pressures on public services, the Government’s consultation must consider how they can be supported, in and out of the workplace, as part of a reformed system.”

About Simplyhealth

For 146 years we’ve been helping people to make the most of life through better everyday health. In 2017 Simplyhealth and Denplan united under one Simplyhealth brand and today we’re proud to be the UK’s leading provider of health cash plans, Denplan dental payment plans and pet health plans.

We help over three million people in the UK access the health and care products, services and support that they need, when they need them and at a price they can afford.

We’re proud to donate 10% of our pre-tax profits to health-related charitable activities every year, and this amounted to over £1 million in 2017. Our Simplyhealth Great Run Series partnership raised an additional £42.6 million for charity.

We’ve worked with employers to develop Care for Life, a personalised solution that provides access to a range of trusted experts and local networks that support carers’ specialised needs. In addition, we’ve teamed up with technology company HealthUnlocked to develop an online freely-accessible peer-led forum so that those caring for elderly friends or relatives can share their concerns in a supportive environment.
