Simplyhealth funding helps deliver much needed therapy programmes for disabled children

Brainwave-Dexter-charity-donation1

A donation from Simplyhealth, the UK’s leading health solutions company, has funded a senior physiotherapist at Brainwave, a charity with its headquarters in Somerset, which will enable more children with disabilities across the UK to gain greater independence.

Simplyhealth has supported the charity for more than twenty years and their therapies make a long-term difference to children’s lives, by helping families to better manage their child’s condition at home.

This donation has funded the annual salary of a senior physiotherapist and sponsored five children to follow the Brainwave programme for a year and comes at a much-needed time.

The pandemic and subsequent restrictions have had a significant impact on the families we support, our service delivery and finances, with over £1m in lost income over the past two years. With the support of Simplyhealth we can maintain and further develop our physiotherapy support and reach out to even more children and families.

Keith Sinclair, CEO of Brainwave

Brainwave is currently supporting over 400 families with children who have a variety of conditions including cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, genetic disorders, and developmental delay.

Without Simplyhealth’s support, me and the rest of the Brainwave therapy team wouldn’t be able to empower parents by teaching them how to deliver therapy to their child at home. The impact of this input can be life changing for the child whether it helps them learn to sit without support, or ask for a drink, and the process also helps families deal with the additional pressures that come with having a child with additional needs.

Mike Sebire, Senior Specialist Physiotherapist at Brainwave

Supporting local causes and building healthier communities is at the heart of Simplyhealth’s purpose of improving access to healthcare. Reinvesting up to ten per cent of its pre-tax profits into charitable causes every year, Simplyhealth provides financial and volunteer support to large and small causes around the country who share their values.

We are proud to play our part in helping Brainwave during what has been a challenging time for them. We are delighted that our funding allows for a senior physiotherapist to continue working on making such a big difference in the lives of children and their families through their therapies.

About Brainwave

Brainwave unites the disciplines of physiotherapy, speech and language therapy and learning development, to help children reach their potential.

We provide a relaxed, fun, and friendly atmosphere for families at a fully equipped Centre in the South West, and virtually through Brainwave Online  to encourage children’s engagement, learning and development.

Brainwave therapy aims to improve mobility, communication skills and learning potential through a range of educational and physical therapies. Families are assessed and given their own bespoke Therapy Programme which is taught to the parent/carer to carry out at home. The Programme is tailored for each child and their needs to fit around family life.

2022 marks Brainwave’s 40th Anniversary supporting children with disabilities to achieve greater independence and later this year we plan to trial Brainwave Regional Hubs to ensure we can support more children with disabilities across the UK.
