Working with Carers Trust to support the nation's young carers

Roger Cotton, Head of Charitable Giving at Simplyhealth, says: “This Carers Week we have a great opportunity to recognise the hard-work and dedication of the 700,000 young people across the UK who are caring for family members.

The Government’s recognition in its Carers Action Plan of the need to more effectively identify young carers and signpost them to targeted support as soon as possible is welcome and much-needed.

Young carers make significant sacrifices at an important time during their personal, educational and emotional development. Working with Carers Trust we’re committed to ensuring that young carers are able to reach their full potential, supporting them in school so their personal wellbeing and life chances are not impacted by their caring responsibilities.”

The Young Carers in Schools Programme, jointly run by the Carers Trust and Children’s Society, is designed to make it easier for schools to support young carers. Simplyhealth is also helping to fund My Mental Health, a three-year project aiming to tackle the mental health inequalities experienced by young and adult carers aged five to 24 years old.
